And I will never see the sky the same way and I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday and I will never cease to fly if held down and I will always reach too high cause I've seen, cause I've seen... twilight.

This journal is for the himitsu_sensou RPG (Fire Emblem: War of Secrets). This character is played by i_paint_the_sky. Her PB is Kaioh Michiru (Sailor Neptune) from Sailor Moon. Above lyrics from "Twilight" by Vanessa Carlton.
Irene's username was the nickname of Marie Therese Charlotte, Princess Royale de France, the daughter of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Out of her immediate family, La Serieuse was the only one to survive the French Revolution.

I have made many mistakes and I am sorry for them, but every one was done out of love, which I'm realizing might be the only good reason to do anything.

HISTORY
Irene was the first daughter born to her parents, but not the first child. A few years previous, a son Alexander had been stillborn. While Irene's birth was met with great happiness, her parents did feel some disappointment over the lack of a male heir. Despite their best efforts, Irene became aware of this sentiment early on and decided to dedicate her life to making her parents be proud of her, even if she wasn't a boy.
The first years of her life were dedicated to studying with a tutor, inside because she didn't care much for the cold wilderness which surrounding her home. She dedicated all her energy towards these studies...until she saw how her parents would often dote on their more physically out-going daughter, Lauren. After years of a perceived sibling rivalry with Alexander's memory, Irene did not want to be out-done by her living sister. So she decided to take a new direction in her life and ended up choosing to become a pegasus knight, despite the fact that she did have a slight fear of heights. She started the training late but her disciplined nature, refined during her academic studies, helped her to do well.
Once she finished training, Irene chose to become a messenger, in order to both stay close to her home and to avoid having to be in actual combat. She had always led a very sheltered life and did not want to give it up. This is also why she pushed to have her sisters join her, to keep all the family safe and nearby. She visited home often and while there would often make trips to Alexander's grave, where she could sit and be alone with her thoughts.
Irene has always lived her life how she thought would best please her parents and she has made them proud...however, she herself has not yet found something that makes her truly happy, something to do for herself rather than for other people.
After the discovery of the magical journeys, Irene quickly found herself being pulled into a situation she wanted nothing to do with. In the end, she was unable to keep her sister Lauren from leaving with Celeste and her group, a failure which weighs very heavily on her. Forced to return home with only Rae, Irene soon threw all her energy into a new mission, given to her by the Lord of Rayla, which brought her out of Korin for the first time and to Razen, the capital of Atsiria. There she was met with her cousin, Tyre, whose presence was a constant challenge, but not an unwelcome one.
After Rae also left, blindly flying off into the desert one day, Irene's world fell apart. The betrayal, as she sees it, left her completely devastated and, to protect herself, she choose to cut all communication with her sisters, for the time being. Now with only Tyre left, she once more is called upon by the Lord of Rayla for a new mission, which she throws herself into in order to forget the shambles of the family life she once devoted all her heart and soul towards.
However, after accomplishing what she was asked to do, Irene found herself needing to travel to Keir, after an attack on that house left three of her cousins dead, and Tyre, the only remaining sibling, a shadow of her former self. On the way, she was brought down by the attack of bandits, only to be found by Lauren and the group surrouding the Franel lords. While Irene recovered, she was able to observe his sister in this world and finally was forced to recognize that Lauren should be there. The two sisters began to patch things up, though the road of reconciliation is still far from over.
Once she arrived at Keir, Irene was horrified to discover the true extent of what had happened. Determined to help in some way, but feeling shut out by Tyre when she tried, Irene agreed to take on a difficult undercover mission to House Sylea, the prime suspect in the attack. Taking on the identity of "Michelle of Fryda", Irene travelled to House Sylea...but not before sending a letter home to her parents, relating the truth of what had happened since she was in Taerin last. While she was in the midst of her spy mission, she received the response from her parents, in which she was ordered to help bring her sisters home. Irene refused and thus destroyed the last bastion of the former life that she enjoyed and misses so much.
While at Sylea, Irene began, despite frankly knowing better, a friendship with Jarek, the heir of the house. This relationship quickly deepened into something neither of them truly understand. Jarek eventually came to realize that Michelle and Irene were one and the same person, but chose to allow Irene to safely leave before revealing this to his family. Irene returned to Keir, bearing the information she had worked so hard to gather, but with a confused heart. As soon as was possible, she returned home, trying to put as much distance between herself and the situation as she could, while also realizing that there is no way to escape it, especially now that the proof she gathered has now been used as reasoning for the assasination of the Lord of Sylea, putting his blood on her hands...and making Jarek the new ruling lord.
The situation has now moved on to the next level, as preparations for a full-blown war begin. At home, Irene stepped up her own training, while gathering Taerin troops to led in aid of Keir. She journeyed to their allies, seeking military aid. However, in the middle of this, she made a secret trip to Affen, to see Jarek again, if only for a few precious hours.
However, once that day was over, she returned, leading her troops towards the battlefield, unable to turn back from this path, no matter how much she would like to. At the same time, Irene has also become embroiled in political strife with Taerin's longtime ally, House Rayla, including feeling personally attacked by Eve, who she has called friend in the past. Rayla's involvement is something that Irene does not want at all, but she has found it difficult to convince the "ruling" house of Korin this, especially as she does not want to endanger the alliance.
The situation between Taerin and Rayla blew up the day Lord Edgard was assassinated. Eve immediately blamed Irene for her father's death, as did her closest advisors (though they did have some doubts). Upset, and still recovering from the wound she received after being bitten by a dragon during back, Irene decided to have her forces retreat. Shortly after, they made their way through the mountains and finally, after two months of heading towards it, arrived safely at Keir. Here the entire army, Irene included, found a much needed rest, one that was most needed, but this was only temporary.
Not too long after their arrival in Keir, Taerin's forces took part in a rather risky plan devised by Lord Varen. While moving into position to carry out this strategy, Irene recieved word that Rayla had been calling its banners to arms, which meant that the Mera troops she had received in aid were being recalled. Also, on the first day of battle Tyre was badly injured. Despite this, the battle did go in Keir and Taerin's favour, as the Sylea troops were soundly beaten.
The celebration of this victory did not last long however. While back at Keir, recovering from her own wounds while also planning the next move, Irene accidently left her journal open to a conversation between herself and Jarek. A conversation which Tyre accidentally read, causing her to declare Irene a traitor. At the same time, Irene was ordered by Eve to come to Rayla to "work things out." Under escort from Keir, she is being brought to Rayla now, though she did manage to convince the escort to go past the area just south of Affen, where she believes the Training Academy she has planned with Jarek might be built one day.
Once she arrived at Rayla, Irene found herself faced with a dire ultimatum: join Rayla or have Taerin marched on. Eve also requested Irene to marry Lysander of Mera, with whom she had a long-standing betrothal contract, as a show of loyalty and commitment. Facing this, Irene found her options limited and thus was forced to agree to withdraw her forces from Keir and bring them to Rayla, while she also began to make plans for a wedding she had no intentions of going through with. At the same time, she made plans with Jarek to meet, so she could show him the area she had discovered to be perfect for their Academy plans. These plans came to fruition and the pair spent three days - and two nights - together, finalizing plans...amoung other things.
When this was over, Irene quickly flew to Keir and began to march her troops towards Rayla, all while feeling a sense of unexplained unease which she couldn't shake, no matter how hard she tried. Before too long she discovered why: Irene was pregnant. Wanting her child to have more than the life of a bastard yet also being unable to give everything else up in order to marry Jarek, she decided that the only course of action that made any sense was to marry Lysander. By doing this she not only saved herself and the baby from shame but also continued her attempts to ease the situation with Rayla. Her plans for the future, for a life with Jarek, have not changed, but Irene decided that she has no choice but to focus on the present, on making sure that her baby has the best chance at a happy life from the beginning.
Thus, on June 28th, at Mera, Irene was wedded and bedded by Lysander of Mera. It was the worst day of Irene's life so far. But she managed to find the strength to get through it and secure a place for herself and for her child.
This plan lasted for several months. However, unbeknownst to Irene, Jarek's brothers Mal and Keane had discovered their affair and were now plotting the death of their brother. This plan succeeded, though not entirely as they had anticipated, on September 11th and Jarek was killed by Lord Keran of Sarrca. Shortly afterwards, Keane made public the knowledge of Jarek's death, as well as the fact that he is the father of Irene's child. With no way of denying this, Irene decided the best strategy was to flee for her life and the life of her child, managing to get past Lysander's attempts to keep her in Taerin.
When she left, her journal was left behind, to be evidence both for and against her, something she felt Lysander deserved to have.
Just over two weeks later, in the middle of Dentoria, Irene stole a journal from a small shop, in order to rejoin the networks. She cleared the way for her to go to Megam, to seek sanctuary from the Dark Church. She also began to talk to those she held dear, trying to rebuild a life that she would now live without the man she loved. While Tyre tried to work through their issues, Irene's sisters were more resistant and, after a small breakdown, Irene decided that, at least for the time being, it would be better to cut ties with them, for the sake of everyone's well-being (especially that of her unborn child). She began to build new relationships as well, trying to gather what allies she could, people who believed that what she did was right.
On her first Rose Day without Jarek, Irene went into labour. The next morning her son, Jayden, was born.
The next several months were spent caring for her son and trying to find reason in her life. She recognized that her actions during her pregnancy had been very erratic, due to a mix of stress, hormones, and her own bad judgement. She tried to once again to fix the damage she had caused, while continuing to do everything possible to give Jayden a happy life.
During the time after she fled Korin, a ban on pegasus flight had been ordered by Eve, which had subsequently led to a number of deaths. Wishing to finally end this situation, Irene chose to reveal her location to Rayla, in hopes that they might let her live her life in peace and exile. However, she did recognize the fact that it was very likely that Rayla would simply try to have her killed and so, to protect her son she sent him away, under the protection of Father Lycoris. The months without Jayden were some of the hardest of Irene's life.
In the end, Rayla did indeed try to kill her, but a last minute decision by Eve agreed to Irene's terms: she could live, but only if she remained in Megam. Shortly after, Jayden was returned to her and once again, Irene turned her mind to the task of giving him the best life she could, while always fearing that he would never be able to escape the circumstances of his birth.

PERSONALITY
Her whole life, Irene was viewed as being very serious and dutiful, a fact that made her affair with Jarek quite a shock for many. She devoted most of her life towards trying to make up for the fact that she was not Alexander, as well as making herself worthy of love and pride from her father.
Since her affair was discovered, Irene has had to evaluate herself and learn more about who she really is. She has become quite insecure when it comes to her own judgement, as it was this judgement which led her to the situation which she is currently in. She also has become even more private, rarely showing herself to the world and even then only doing it in hopes that she might receive a response from her sisters, whom she desperately wants to reconcile with to some extent.
All of her experiences have made Irene a more accepting person. She recognizes that situations are not black and white now more than ever and she is trying to judge people less harshly. She also places more importance upon personal relationships, now that she has found herself so isolated and desperately wanting to have people to talk to. She is still not a friendly person, per say, but she is not as cold and arrogant as she once was.
The one thing that has not changed is her deep ties to her family, now mainly focused on Jayden. She spends as much time as is possible with him and greatly regrets that it is not possible to always be there. There is nothing that Irene would not do to protect her son. She also feels a great amount of guilt when Jayden is concerned. She feels like she has robbed him of his birthright, by giving birth to him out of wedlock. She also regrets that there is a good chance he will never meet any member of his family other than her.
Finally, there is a sadness about her that she knows she will never be rid of, for as happy as she may be in the rest of her life, there will never be a moment that would not be happier if Jarek was there to share with her.

APPEARANCE
Irene is of average height. While she once was in peak physical condition, lack of training and the aftermath of her pregnancy have led to becoming less so, though she is still fairly slim. She always wears her wavy, green hair loose, even when it is unpractical to do so. She has blue eyes and pale skin, though less so now that she is in Megam and spends more time outside. Irene wears simple clothing, the colour of which is usually black and dark gray, to blend in better with her surroundings at the temple in Chiaco. She also always wears a locket around her neck, inside which is a piece of paper, torn from the journals, on which is the message "I love you," written by Jarek.
